1963 - Rev. James H. Silver, a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, became our pastor.
1964 - The following year, our church joined the Evangelical Covenant Church of America. Our name changed to the Evangelical Covenant Church of LH. The Victory Club then became known as the Covenant Women’s Club.
1965-68? Another example of our church honoring our community members was captured in a newspaper clipping showing Rev. Silver conducted a ceremony honoring the memory of Walter Schmidt of LH, a serviceman killed in Vietnam. The ceremony was held for the dedication of our memorial bulletin board outside. - In case you thought the church was booming at this time and had money to spare, take this into consideration. the Pastor’s salary was $4,620 + parsonage. (mortgage being $1725). Here are also 2 church rules from the time that were written to save money: Turn heat down to 65 degrees. If any organization leaves the heat on after the use of the halls, they will be charged $3.00.
1968 - Rev. Silver served as the chairman for a committee of concerned citizens in Madison Township who met monthly to discuss race relations, talk over problems and try to solve them before they reach the crisis stage. Talk about one tough job to take on to help out the community! June - Rev. Silver joined a Community Church in Poquonock, Conn. Rev. Joseph Herner became our pastor until 1973.
